Why go: Dan is on tour after engaging in the Jewish musical world through his work as a cantorial soloist at congregations in Raleigh, NC and Nashville, TN. He's also been a modern rock performer on stage with the likes of Ben Folds Five. He comes to Shir Shalom for a special Java Havdallah performance. Tickets are $10 at the door.

Why go: The Greater West Bloomfield Historical Society is hosting an Open House at the Orchard Lake Museum on Sunday. In case you haven't read up on the Presidents lately, and you feel Presidents Day on Feb. 20 closing in fast, there's no reason to fear. The Open House is free and open to all, with the special theme of Presidents.

Why go: Why not take in the Valentine's Day holiday with this free jazz concert? The beautiful Ravitz Foundation Main Atrium of Henry Ford will host the national jazz star Alexander Zonjic in the concert as part of the Hospital's Healing Arts Program. The festive free concert will present an entertaining blend of jazz, blues and gospel music featuring the vocal group, Men of Grace and the vocal stylings of soloist Athena Jackson along with Zonjic and his award winning band.

Why go: Why not take in the Valentine's Day holiday with this concert of music from the classical era? The Birmingham-Bloomfield Symphony Orchestra (BBSO) has 12 times earned the Detroit Motor City Award for “Most Outstanding Community Orchestra in Southeast Michigan,” a feat no other community orchestra has been able to best. Tonight, they're coming right to our backyard. 

The program includes:

  • Mozart: Overture to La Clemenza di Tito
  • Hummel: Trumpet Concerto
  • Handel: Excerpts from Water Music
  • Haydn: Symphony No. 97 in C major

When: 9 a.m. Sunday

Why go: This special Sunday service is sure to educate and inspire. Pastor Mary Duerksen will lead a teaching moment on the history of Valentine's Day and offer an opportunity for couples to recommit to each other. A special Valentine-themed coffee hour will follow the service.
