5 Arrested and Drugs Seized from Gas Station in K2 Crackdown

5 arrested and drugs seized in K2 crackdown

Police and federal agents raided two businesses in Shelby Township suspected of selling K2 Wednesday morning and arrested five people, confiscated loads of the synthetic drug and forfeited thousands of dollars and several vehicles, according to Shelby-Utica Patch. 

At about 6 a.m., police and Drug Enforcement Agency officers executed search warrants at the Citgo Gas Station on Van Dyke Avenue and 21 Mile Road and at Woodstock Tobacco, which is in the adjoining plaza.  

Meanwhile, officers also searched the homes of the business owners in West Bloomfield and Sterling Heights.

Multiple deer crashes reported

Over the Oct. 27-28 weekend, three deer from three different accidents suffered life threatening injuries and had to be put down by White Lake Police officers, White Lake-Highland Patch reported.

"It's important to understand that it's safer to come to a controlled stop whenever a deer is in your path than to swerve and go off the road," said State Transportation Director Kirk T. Steudle. "Don't veer for deer or swerve to avoid an animal because it can be more dangerous and even deadly."   

Rash of thefts reported in downtown Birmingham

Several suspects are wanted in connection with a string of thefts at various Birmingham shops along Maple Road Oct. 27, according to Birmingham Patch.

According to Birmingham Police Cmdr. Terry Kiernan, police are investigating two separate incidents, during which merchandise was taken from Bec and Sam's, Anthropologie, Beauty by RX, the Spice and Tea Exchange, Sweet Thing and Backcountry North.

Catalytic converter thieves strike Bloomfield

The catalytic converters of two vehicles were cut off and stolen from outside the Fox Hills Condominiums in Bloomfield Township this week, police said.

Bloomfield-Bloomfield Hills Patch reported that it's the second similar theft involving multiple vehicle parked at residential complexes in as many weeks, according to police reports. The recent thefts both involved Cadillacs that were parked overnight on Oct. 28 and Oct. 29, police reports said. Authorities have not identified a suspect in either incident, or in any of the other catalytic convertor cases yet.

This week's incidents are at least the fourth and fifth catalytic thefts reported to Bloomfield Township police since the spring.

Hartland's Bulletproof Snow gaining national recognition

Hartland Patch reported that a Hartland-based band, Bulletproof Snow, is gaining national attention after being selected to the semi-final round in a countrywide battle of the bands.

Trey McLaughlin, Jake Yacobelli, Matt Coon and Connor Cheney, is a Hartland-based band that is in the running for a grand prize of a trip to Europe to perform in 2013 SchoolJam finals taking place in Frankfurt, Germany. 

Online voting is going on through Nov. 30 with the top eight bands moving to the final round with the chance to travel to California in January and perform in Downtown Disney. Voters may cast a vote each day for their favorite band.

The band that gains the most popular vote also will receive $1,000 for their school's music education program.
