This Week in West Bloomfield: 5 Things to Know

This week, Patch will be covering a host of local government meetings, the Pink Out football game, and the Sylvan Lake City Council voters forum.

Five local stories to keep an eye on Oct. 15-21:

1. The West Bloomfield Township Board of Trustees will meet on Monday night to discuss the possibility of an electric vehicle charging station coming to Town Hall, among other topics. Other local government board meetings this week include the Orchard Lake Village City Council meeting Monday night and the Keego Harbor 

2. Come and hear from the candidates for Sylvan Lake City Council in the Nov. 6 election at the League of Women Voters Oakland area forum Monday night.

There are two open seats for three-year terms on the Sylvan Lake City Council. Incumbent Russell Meskin, along with challengers Edward Cassar, John Shepp (write-in), and Megan Rogers-Zumbach (write-in) are on the ballot. The forum takes place at the Sylvan Lake Community Center at 7 p.m. Jerry Burden is the coordinator.

3. The weather forecast calls for showers and clouds dissipating by midweek before possibly returning on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). The high could reach 52 degrees on Monday with a chance of showers before sun comes back on Tuesday through Wednesday. The high could reach 69 degrees on Wednesday, according to NWS.

4. Crain’s Detroit Business Managing Editor Jennette Smith, Detroit Free Press Editorial Page Editor Stephen Henderson and The Detroit News Editorial Page Editor Nolan Finley will be in the spotlight at the Chaldean American Chamber of Commerce annual business luncheon scheduled for Thursday at the Shenandoah Country Club.

Tickets for the event can be purchased by contacting the Chamber office at 248-996-8340 or info@chaldeanchamber.com. Cost is $50 for Chaldean Chamber members, $60 for non-members.

5. "Pink Viking Week" at Walled Lake Central High School will conclude on Friday at the Pink Week football game, kicking off at 7 p.m. During the halftime show, Central students will honor those who have been affected by breast cancer with a moment of silence. In addition to the football team wearing pink socks, all Central athletic teams will honor the cause throughout the week by adding pink in their uniforms.
