UPDATED: This Week in West Bloomfield: 5 Things to Know

This week, Patch will be watching outdoors events, local government meetings, and events leading up to Rosh Hashanah.

Five local stories to keep an eye on Sept. 9-15:

1. The countdown to the Jewish New Year is unofficially on in West Bloomfield, with several events this week open to the public in support of Rosh Hashanah.  ($19) just in time to prepare for the Seder, on recreating traditional recipes for a healthy lifestyle. on desserts for special diets ($5, goes to support food bank).

2. Two local government meetings this week — including the  and the  meetings — have been canceled due to the death of West Bloomfield Police Department Officer Patrick O'Rourke in the line of duty. The  meets Wednesday at 7 p.m..

3. The weather forecast calls for lots of sun, with a high of 76 degrees on Tuesday climbing up to 79 degrees on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service. The nights are expected to be cool and clear, with a low of 57 degrees Tuesday. We could see showers by Friday.

4. Your neighbors will be sure to try and take advantage of the mild conditions with several outdoors events.  should provide some active fun for children and families, while the  (sold out) should be fun and informative.

5. As part of custom for Patriot Day on Tuesday, the President asks that American flags be flown at half-staff in honor of the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
