Vigil Scheduled in Honor of Slain West Bloomfield Man

A candlelight vigil was scheduled in West Bloomfield Monday night in honor of Samir Mikha Hannawa, 49, who was laid to rest this past weekend after tragedy struck last week.

According to news reports and a Facebook post by the local Chaldean American Chamber of Commerce, Hannawa, 49, a father of seven living in West Bloomfield, was shot by an unknown assailant(s) at Great Lakes Collision Shop at on Wyoming near Grand River in Detroit Nov. 7. According to witnesses who called 911, two suspects fled in a car before Hannawa was transported to Sinai Grace Hospital in Detroit, but doctors were unable to save him.

Hannawa, a native of Telkaif, Iraq, came to the United States in 2000, the Chamber said. He was a manager at a store in Detroit, said family members, who described him as well liked and "an all-around good guy."

The vigil was scheduled at 7 p.m. in the grotto at St. Thomas Chaldean Catholic Church. Among those expected to speak were Hannawa's oldest daughter, Athraa Hannawa, who has made a public plea for information.
