Weekend Planner: Home Entertainment Expo, Firearms Safety Class, and Brass Quintet

Patch tells you what's going on in and around town.

If you’re looking for your best bets for weekend activities, Patch has you covered with highlights of events you may not want to miss.

  • When: 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday
  • Where: 
  • Cost: for residents $165; non-residents $175
  • Why Go: Participants will learn the fundamentals of shooting a pistol with live fire exercises, how to control violent confrontations, basic firearm safety, and the law that goes with it. The instructors are experts and full time officers. You will get a chance to receive your concealed pistol license certification from this class. The day includes a pizza lunch. Please register in advance by calling the department at 248-975-9200 and note that this is for adults only. 

  • When: 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. Saturday; 12 p.m. - 6 p.m. Sunday
  • Where: 
  • Cost: free
  • Why Go:  is hosting their 2nd Annual Home Entertainment Expo this weekend. You can learn about the newest and greatest technology through product demonstrations, plus on-hand experts in home electronics and furniture will be there to offer you creative solutions for your home. There will also be over $10,000 in furniture and accessories given away in free raffles. Many items will have discounts with part of the proceeds benefitting Kids Kicking Cancer. They will also provide pizza and cupcakes for all to enjoy.

  • Where: 
  • Cost: $36/family
  • Why Go: The shul experience doesn't necessarily require your best clothes. In fact, the Sabbath dinner can include breakfast food. Families with young children are invited to wear their pajamas to Temple Israel to share a very casual pancake dinner, celebrate the end of Shabbat with Havdallah and discover Jewish bedtime rituals.   • When: 11 a.m. Saturday
  • Where: 
  • Cost: free
  • Why Go: On Saturday, families with children ages six and up can attend the Lego Club. Legos allow your children to build with their imagination and with a theme of "Great Inventions" you never know what they may create.  The morning begins with a story beforehand and then some Lego building fun. No registration is required.

  • When: 7:30 p.m. Friday
  • Where: 
  • Cost: $15 for adults, $5 for students
  • Why Go: The Axiom Brass Quintet won the 2008 International Chamber Brass Competition and prize, and were prize-winners of the 2010 Fischoff Chamber Music Competition. They are internationally recognized and have performed a repertoire that includes original compositions as well as a range from jazz to Latin music all over the world. The Quintet is dedicated to the brass repertoire and educating the next generation of musicians.
