Weekend Planner: 'The Odd Couple,' Chaldean Food Tasting, and Local Authors Event

Patch tells you what's happening this weekend around West Bloomfield.

This week may have seemed extra long to you due to changing the clocks for Daylight Savings Time, but you finally made it to Friday. All week long we have been counting down the days to help you plan your weekend with options of events to attend.

When: Friday at 11:30 a.m.

Why go: As part of the 60th Annual , you can take a culinary journey and enjoy tastings from one of the world's oldest cuisines on Friday.  You will learn about the history of Chaldeans, in the Metro Detroit area and Mesopotamia. The Chaldean American Ladies of Charity cookbook, , will be used to demonstrate the making of vegetarian dolma and baklawa. You will get to try these two recipes plus Iraqi salad.  The importance of sharing a table and the time-honored traditions of enjoying foods in the Chaldean culture will be shared with you.

When: Friday or Saturday 8 p.m., Sunday 2 p.m.

Why go: Two Muses Theater make their debut in West Bloomfield with a Neil Simon hit playing through November.  The original The Odd Couple was created in 1965, and Neil Simon wrote the female version in 1976. You can go see the female version, which doesn't star Oscar and Felix but rather Olive and Florence. It's a revision of a comedy classic that will hopefully keep you laughing through the performance.

When: Friday at 9 p.m.

Why go: Cranbrook Art Museum is finally reopening, and they have eleven days of celebrating to offer. On Friday night, you can attend the public opening reception. There will be three live musicians/bands as EMERGENCE presents "A Night of Music: Night One." Invincible is a Detroit based hip-hop artist and activist whose wordplay is popular across the world. The Rarities, is a Detroit duo who mix hip-hop flavor with intense cello playing. The Cupcake Collective has a multi-genre approach to music. They are a Detroit DJ collective of queer folks and allies who believe in diversity on the dance floor.

When: Saturday at 10 a.m.

Why go: With the holidays fast approaching, many of you may see eReaders on your loved ones wish list. If you are not sure which one you should buy or are looking for someone to explain all the new ones that have recently hit the market, the Main Library wants to help lessen the confusion while shopping for eReaders. You will learn about the latest models and also about all the downloadable books the Library has to offer in this class.

When: Sunday at 10 a.m.

Why go: Sunday will be the last day for the 60th Annual .  You can attend the Local Authors Event which will feature 14 local authors. Each author has written a unique book in topics ranging from children's books, to history books, to poetry and self-help books. Enjoy light refreshments as each author gives a short presentation on their book. Afterwards you can meet the authors and they will be available to sign copies of their books.
