West Bloomfield Man Thanks Beaumont Nurses with Cake, Flowers

Terry Donovan delivery a special treat to the nurses who helped save his life after he suffered a cardiac arrest in January.

West Bloomfield resident Terry Donovan visited Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak Monday morning, to express appreciation to the nurses who helped save his life after he suffered a cardiac arrest on January 26.

Donovan fell ill in the parking lot of Hogan's Restaurant in Bloomfield Hills. Someone there administered CPR (cardio-pulmonary resuscitation) until paramedics arrived and took him to Beamont.

While there, he underwent cooling therapy, which lowered his body temperature and gave his brain time to heal. Donovan woke up days later and made great progress. Today, he has full functionality.

“You do this kind of work for mankind, and you’re automatically going to heaven,” he said to the nursing staff.

Donovan visited 8Center CPCU and 6 East CICU, the units in which he stayed while at the hospital. He brought a cake for each unit and forget-me-not flowers for his caregivers.
