Why go: Purim ("purr-eem") is a joyous Jewish annual holiday which commemorates the deliverance of the Jewish people in the ancient Persian Empire. It is especially fun for children who delight in traditions including the exchange of sweets.

The holiday begins on sunset March 7, but the celebration at Adam Shalom Synagogue begins at 11 a.m. Sunday with a fun talent show to search for a Purim Superstar called "Sushan Idol." At 11:45 a.m. the carnival for all ages begins.  There will be games, a kiddie corner, clowns, face painting, photo booth, miniature motorways, bounce houses, balloon animals and more, all for free. Joe Cornell will provide live entertainment.

Everyone is welcome to attend.

Featuring a sit-down dinner, live and silent auctions and more, Lighthouse’s signature fundraising event is consistently well-attended by dedicated individuals and corporate leaders throughout Oakland County. This year’s entertainment will include music group The Blue Effect and magician Baffling Bill. Auburn Hills-based RGIS, a global leader in inventory, supply chain and merchandising solutions, will be the corporate honoree.

Tickets are still available for the 2012 Beacon of Hope. For information on this event or other Lighthouse projects, contact Priscilla Perkins at pperkins@lighthouseoakland.org or 248-920-6000 ext. 2123.
