5000 to 6000 Sandhill Cranes are gathering at Haehnle Sanctuary, Grass Lake. Each evening now the end of November. They will be there until the migrate to Florida.
This year a record number of Cranes flew into the Sanctuary 7483. They fly in right over our heads. Join the crane count on Mondays.
Each weekend an Audubon Member will greet visitors and have spotting scopes and binoculars for viewing. They can answer any questions you may have about the Cranes. They are about 3'6" tall and weigh 15 lbs.
In Chelsea, (I94 exit 159) look for the recycled metal sandhill cranes sculptures, where you can pick up driving maps.
