2012 Bernie Smilovitz Harvest Classic

On Monday, September 10th, 2012, celebrities from the world of news, politics and sports will join Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan (Gleaners) supporters and WDIV's Sports Anchor Bernie Smilovitz at Tam O'Shanter Country Club in West Bloomfield for the 2012 Bernie Smilovitz Harvest Classic. This year's outing will serve as a capstone to Gleaners' Hunger Free Summer campaign-an initiative to reach hungry children in southeast Michigan.

Bernie's After Golf Party will take place on Tam O'Shanter's patio at 4:00pm where celebrities, golfers and friends will celebrate the day while enjoying a variety of beverages and hors d'oeuvres. The public is invited to join the fun at the after party for $100 and can purchase tickets by calling Suzette Hohendorf at 313.923.3535 ext.243.

The Hunger Free Summer campaign will provide an additional two million meals to children. There are more than 315,000 children in southeast Michigan who rely on free or reduced-fee meals at school and are at risk of going hungry. Over the last seven years, the Bernie Smilovitz Harvest Classic has provided 2.1 million meals to our hungry neighbors and will help close the hunger gap again this year. Now in its eighth year, the Harvest Classic aims to raise $60,000, which will provide 180,000 more meals to hungry children and help to ensure the campaign reaches its goal of $670,000.
