Outrun Hunger Run/Walk Sets $12K Goal to Feed Needy Families

The Nov. 2 fundraiser on Commerce Commons Pathway will benefit Hospitality House and Open Door Outreach Center.

The Grace Church–Commerce 3rd annual Outrun Hunger Run/Walk on Nov. 2 will benefit two charities that help families in need of food.

The 5k run/walk and 1 mile run/walk start at 10 a.m. on the scenic Commerce Commons Pathway, at Commerce Township Hall. All proceeds from the event will be given to the Hospitality House of Walled Lake and the Open Door Outreach Center of Waterford.

“Two years ago we hoped to raise enough money to feed 100 families," said lead pastor Mark Erikson. "I’m happy to say that as our race has grown, so has our ability to help those in need. This year we want to shatter all previous goals by raising $12,000 and feeding 600 families."

Kari Cotter, event organizer said, “We know the reductions in welfare services throughout the state are still adversely affecting many people. Your contributions will help immensely. In fact, $20 feeds a family of four a hot holiday meal."
