Spinning on Land

The spinning adventure continues on land. And Joel is kind of sore.

I got a fabulous deal from CBS Local Offers (similar to Groupon) for a two month membership at the on Orchard Lake. One of the key things for me was that it includes unlimited classes, including spinning. I just activated my membership on Sunday.

Thinking that it wouldn't be a crowded class this morning (figuring people stayed up to watch the Tigers game), I gave it a shot. Early. 6:15 am. One hour.

I'm not moving all that fast right now.

In case you don't know, spinning is an exercise done on a special type of exercise bike. It is done to music, to which you are supposed to pedal in beat with (not easy), and simulates various types of riding conditions. This class was designed to simulate a lot of hills.

Like I said, I'm not moving all that fast right now.

There are times where you are supposed to stand as you are pedaling, and for me that is very difficult to maintain. I realized I don't have much (if any!) core strength. I contacted a Twitter friend who is a personal trainer and avid cyclist to see if she can develop a weight training program that will aim to improve this.

You may recall my previous posts when I first did a spinning class, at sea, escaping a hurricane. I think this class was even harder than the ones on the cruise ship.  Fortunately it wasn't on a cruise ship that was rocking back and forth!

I'm hoping to do spinning classes maybe twice a week at first, and on other days ride the exercise bike/weight train. And maybe with time I'll move at a normal pace again.
