Orchard Lake St. Mary's Preparatory made headlines this year when it announced plans to install a red turf football field, but only this week did the Georgia-based manufacturer Sporturf show us what it looked like in preparation.
The school installed a red Sporturf field composed of plastic, sand and rubber on top of a drainable rock base to replace the grass field which had stood for 51 years.
Headmaster James Glowacki said at a groundbreaking ceremony in June that St. Mary's is one of only three campuses nationwide with such a football-playing surface. Eastern Washington University and New Braunfels Canyon High School in Texas are the others.
