Animal Control Takes 41 Cats from West Bloomfield Apartment

According to Oakland County Animal Control, most of the cats were very ill and had to be euthanized.

West Bloomfield Township Police worked with Oakland County Animal Control to remove 41 cats from a woman's apartment in the Aldingbrooke complex on Drake Road.

Lieutenant Tim Diamond said the leasing manager contacted police June 23 about the home in the 6000 block of Stillwell, after a repair worker discovered the resident had, by his estimate, at least 38 cats. The complex limits residents to two cats.

When the door of the unit opened, both the manager and officer gagged at the strong stench of urine and found conditions that were "deplorable," Diamond said.

The case has been turned over to detectives, he added.

Animal Control Administrative Supervisor Joanie Toole said most of the 41 cats had to be euthanized, because they were very ill. Some kittens that were not ill are up for adoption, Toole said.
