Barricaded Gunman Surrenders Peacefully After Brief Standoff

The incident happened Thursday morning on Crestmore Street in West Bloomfield.

A 20-year-old man who had barricaded himself in a home on the 7100 block of Crestmore Street in West Bloomfield with a shotgun peacefully surrendered to police Thursday morning after a brief standoff.

Police were dispatched to the home at 10:48 a.m. in response to a fight between the man and his 19-year-old brother, who were both living at the home with their parents, police said.

The fight between brothers resulted in the 19-year-old brother being stabbed once, police said.

The victim was conscious and alert and was taken to McClaren Hospital in Pontiac by a family member.

Lt. Tim Diamond of West Bloomfield Police said when the family member and the brother had left, the older brother barricaded himself in the home with police outside.

Diamond said that a friend and the boy's father communicated with the older brother on the phone and he surrendered at 11:39 a.m.

The older brother was taken into police custody and was taken to Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital for observation, police said. Diamond said charges will be forwarded to the Oakland County Prosecutor's office and that he may be arraigned Friday.

Thank God the gunman surrendered and no one else got hurt. Our town is already on edge because of Officer O'Rourke's murder last month.
