Authorities are investigating a possible homicide in the death of a newborn baby found in a shallow grave by a St. Clair County resident doing yard work Sunday evening.

The resident found the grave about 6:30 p.m. in the 9300 block of Stone Road, Clay Township Police Chief Don Drake said, the Detroit Free Press reports.

“This is obviously very disturbing to us,”  Drake said.

The baby’s body has been sent to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy. Authorities don’t yet know the gender or race of the baby.

Anyone with information about any recent expectant mothers who may have been involved is asked to call (810) 794-9381 and ask for Drake or Lt. Michael Koach.

Joe Smoe quit turning every post into something political. Everyone is sick of it. I know you are bitter that Obama won two elections but term limits means he won't win again so relax. Not everything has to be politicized. For the record, I also don't think people should be using abortions as a form of birth control but I do think the government is TOO much in our business. I get torn because if we force these people to have their babies then we see stories like this. Are you going to take all the babies that people have and don't want? Or do you want to force these typically young and single mothers to have these babies which are probably either going to be abused or neglected, be poor and many times destined to carry on the same mistakes as their parents? While I don't agree with abortion and absolutely do not agree with partial birth, I don't want to see women forced to have babies that are going to not have a decent life and I know I can't afford to take them all in. Since you are not a woman and will NEVER be in that situation and forced to make those decisions you should put yourself in their shoes. You probably want to deny birth control but then when unplanned pregnancies happen you want to force them to have unwanted babies. I know it doesn't agree with your morals (or even mine) but that is the world we live in. Not everyone shares your beliefs and the government isn't going to be ruled by what you believe in. It is all about the majority which is why we vote. It is easy enough for men to lay judgment because they don't have to deal with the consequences of an unplanned pregnancy. This is why I AM for birth control. Make it free to those low income because they are the most in need of not having more children. Sure, we can say abstinence is the way to go but let's be real. Joseph B. I agree. All of these stories are sickening and heartbreaking. What is wrong with these people? :-( Babies are innocent and defenseless. How anyone could do those things? Maybe we can return the favor and do those same things to the perpetrators. I know that isn't realistic but we need some kind of punishment to match the crime.

They had nowhere to go and no family support, probably in an abusive family or abusive relationship. We all need to help out our community and make things better, not waste time bashing people. What are you going to do?

Cheryl, no where to go? How about a hospital. What about putting the child up for adoption. How exactly do we help our neighbors when they insist on murdering children, born or unborn!

michelle, you obviously ARE an obama lover. that in itself speaks volumes of your intellect. your passion to keep abortion alive and well, and it's victims dead and sold to research labs shows you have NO compassion for vulnerable and defenseless individuals of our "civilized" society.
