Drunken Driving Crash Topples Utility Pole in West Bloomfield
This report is based on information provided by West Bloomfield Township Police. Arrests and charges do not indicate a conviction.
A 27-year-old Livonia man may face a drunken driving charge after his vehicle crashed into a utility pole on Arrowhead in West Bloomfield Township around midnight on Sunday.
According to West Bloomfield Police Lieutenant Tim Diamond, police found the man alone and dazed in his vehicle and power lines down and arcing. While the man's speech was slurred and police noticed a strong odor of alcohol, he told officers he had not been drinking.
Diamond said the man had attended a party in the subdivision. "We found out later that some party-goers tried to stop him, but he got aggressive and they let him go," Diamond said.
The man also became belligerent with paramedics who took him to the hospital because of his high level of intoxication and with hospital personnel, Diamond said. The man was released at the hospital for treatment; police are waiting for the results of blood tests before issuing a citation.
