Jewelry, Painting, Cash Taken in West Bloomfield Home Break-ins

The $9,000 work of art was taken from a home that is up for sale.

A $9,000 painting, jewelry and cash are among the items taken from West Bloomfield homes over the past two weeks.

West Bloomfield Township Police Lieutenant Tim Diamond said a homeowner in the 5000 block of Doherty called police Oct. 24 to report a painting missing. Diamond said the home is up for sale and real estate agents have been showing it.

While the homeowner did not know the artist's name, the oil painting is described as a landscape with a house and flower garden, he added.

A homeowner in the 7000 block of Ilanaway reported the theft of $2,000 in cash a $200 pair of sunglasses, taken between 8 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. on Oct. 24. Diamond said the door to the attached garage had been opening on its own, but the homeowner was certain she closed it. A door going into the house from the garage was unlocked, Diamond said.

Someone pried open a locked, steel front door at a home in the 3000 block of Winterset between 11:45 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Nov. 3, taking an unknown amount of jewelry from the home. Diamond said the homeowner reported several contractors had been inside the home over the previous few weeks.

A homeowner in the 5000 block of Naneva Court contacted police on Oct. 26 to report the theft of two Rolex watches, valued at $5,900 and $5,230. Diamond said a number of contracting companies had been inside the home since Oct. 1, and homeowners were unsure when the watches were taken.

Sometime within the last month, $69,000 worth of jewelry went missing from a home in the 7000 block of Beverly Court. Diamond said the homeowner reported the items missing from her jewelry box on Nov. 5, and told police a handyman had been working inside the home.
