Keep an Eye on Your Debit and Credit Cards, West Bloomfield

A West Bloomfield resident contacted police about more than $14,000 in fraudulent credit card charges.

West Bloomfield Township Police are investigating three incidents of identity theft involving debit and credit cards, including one with more than $14,000 worth of fraudulent transactions.

A resident in the 2000 block of Treyburn contacted police after a credit card company alerted the American Express cardholder to suspicious charges between Dec. 6 and Dec. 11. The card had been tied to an Apple account, and items were ordered through that company, Lieutenant Timothy Diamond said.

Packages were delivered to an address in Berkley, where someone signed for them. West Bloomfield investigators will follow up to find out who received the items.

Two other reports involved the use of debit cards, with fraudulent transactions of $847 and $468.

Lieutenant Timothy Diamond said the department receives similar reports year-around. "It's pretty constant," he said.
