Marijuana, $100,000 in Jewelry Taken in Separate Home Break-ins

The West Bloomfield Police Department provided the following information. Arrests, where they are mentioned, do not indicate conviction.

Officials with the West Bloomfield Police Department investigated the following reports over the past week.

Home Invasions

A resident in the 7000 block of Heather Heath Lane reported 300 to 400 pieces of jewelry were taken during a burglary last week. The victim told police she returned home on March 15 at about 2:30 p.m. and all appeared normal on the lower level, reports said.

However, when she went upstairs she found the master bedroom ransacked and noticed a large jewelry box on the floor with the drawers open. The box contained 300-400 pieces of jewelry valued at about $100,000.

A homeowner in the 6000 block of Post Oak Drive reported that he discovered muddy footprints inside his home leading from a downstairs sliding door on March 16. The man, who is a licensed caregiver under Michigan's medical marijuana law, said his harvested marijuana was taken, along with two Xbox game systems valued at $350, and an HP laptop valued at $1,000.

Animal Complaint

West Bloomfield police officers cited a woman who let go of her leashed dog shortly before it bit another dog, reports said.

Officers responded to an animal complaint in the area of Arrowhead and Pontiac Trail at about 5 p.m. on March 17 and encountered a township resident who said his dog was bitten. The man was walking on the trail with his family when a loose spaniel with a leash and collar approached their dog.

The animals went nose-to-nose and the spaniel bit the other dog on the nose, reports said. Officers spoke with the other dog's owner, who said she let go of the pet's leash as they got closer to their car. She is subject to a fine.

Retail Fraud

A 51-year-old Farmington Hills woman faces a retail fraud charge for shoplifting at the Kroger Store on Orchard Lake Road, police reports said. Store security guards confronted the woman after she was seen slipping multiple items into her purse at about 3:30 p.m. on March 15, reports said.

The detained her until officer arrived after finding roughly $55 worth of chicken, vitamins and tootbrushes, according to reports. A court date is pending.
