A 50-year-old Orchard Lake man remains in the Emmett County Jail in northern Michigan on $10,000 bond, after he and his children were the subject of a 12-hour search in and around Sleeping Bear Dunes Monday.
According to the Detroit Free Press, Daniel Gerard Elliott will be formally charged on Wednesday. County Sheriff Peter Wallin told the newspaper that Elliott's wife was “forced out of the family vehicle by her husband".
He then drove off with the couple's three children, ages 14, 10 and 9.
When the family was found, authorities said, the newspaper reported, the children were "hungry, thirsty, exhausted and covered with mosquito bites but otherwise in good health."
