Police Arrest Suspect in 50 Vehicle Break-ins

The West Bloomfield Police Department provided the following information. Arrests, where they are mentioned, do not indicate conviction.

 

A Waterford man will likely face multiple charges for a series of vehicle break-ins that occurred during the last major snowfall, West Bloomfield Police Department reports said.

Officers arrested the 23-year-old man after following foot prints in the fresh snow on several residential streets along Willow Road on March 16 reports said. The officers were on routine patrol in subdivisions at about 3:30 a.m. when they noticed several footprints leading up to vehicles parked in the streets and driveways. They followed the prints on foot through multiple subdivisions and found the man walking in the area of Willow and Warner roads.

The man refused to stop and ran, leading police on a brief chase that ended on Keith Road a short time later. Reports said the man carried a plastic sandwich bag full of coins, and had other property believed stolen from several cars. Investigators believe he could be responsible for as many as 50 vehicle larcenies that night. The man also had an electronic tether and was listed as a parole absconder from the Michigan Department of Corrections, reports said.

The man remains in custody pending formal charges.

Larceny at Sports Club

A patron of the The Sports Club of West Bloomfield told police that her gold Rolex watch was likely taken from her locker sometime last month, reports said.

The victim, 52, told officers on March 15 that she exercised at the club on Feb. 19 and later realized the watch, valued at $9,000 was missing. Her locker was not secured. She said she delayed reporting the matter to police while she searched her home and several other locations for the watch.

Identity Theft

  • A resident in the 2200 block of Kiev Court reported that their credit card was used on March 14 to make four unauthorized purchases totalling more than $2,700.
  • A resident in the 2700 block of Peterboro Road reported finding a few fraudulent accounts tied to their credit report.
  • A homeowner in the 5900 block of Pinecroft Street reported an attempt by someone to access their e-file tax information by using their personal identification number.
