Police: 'Car-Hoppers' Strike at Long Lake Estates No. 2 Subdivision

West Bloomfield Township Police Department reports from Oct. 3-8 included 56 alarms, 22 crashes and two arrests. Among the highlights:

'Car-hoppers' hit Long Lake Estates No. 2 subdivision

Owners of eight homes on Barcroft, Strathdale, MacNichol, Shadydale, and Fife in the Long Lake Estates No. 2 subdivision reported items stolen from vehicles parked outside overnight Oct. 8.

Several cars, some of which were parked in their respective driveways and others in the street, showed signs of forced entry including broken windows, said Lt. Tim Diamond, adding that several GPS units and personal documents were taken in the series of incidents. Police have no suspects.

The items totaled about $1,730 in value. Diamond noted previous reports last week of , asking that residents not leave items in plain sight if they are not attached to their vehicles.

Robbery at discount store

Police responded to a report of breaking and entering in the early morning hours of Oct. 4 after the owner of Ecotopia, a discount store in the Bloomfield Avenue Shoppes plaza on Haggerty north of Maple Road said that thieves broke down the front door.

Diamond said about $795 worth of items including an Apple iPad, three Apple iPod Touches, a camera and a portable DVD player were reported missing just before 1 a.m. that morning. Thieves apparently broke down the front door, while police later found a piece of concrete on the floor apparently used to break in a large glass window, Diamond continued. 

Diamond said that while the case is being investigated, police have no suspects.
