$25,000 Diamond Ring Disappeared from Kitchen Table, Police Say

The following information was provided by the West Bloomfield Township Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

reports from Nov. 15-Nov. 23 revealed 85 alarms, 20 crashes and 19 arrests. Among the highlights:

Police are investigating a case of larceny from a home on the 4400 block of Exmoor Circle involving a pear-shaped diamond ring, worth $25,000, according to Lt. Tim Diamond.

"It's not your typical home invasion, so there's a mystery of who took this ring," Diamond said.

The larceny is believed to have occurred between 5 p.m. Nov. 14 and 10:30 a.m. Nov. 15. The homeowner who reported the theft apparently kept some jewelry, including the purloined ring, in an unlocked container on the kitchen table, Diamond said. There were no signs of forced entry, so police are trying to understand who could have gained entry to the kitchen.

"There's some possibility that it's a worker who had been in the house previously and may have gotten something like the combination to open the garage," Diamond said.

Jewelry, large safe stolen from home

Police are also investigating a home invasion on the 3300 block of Timber Crest Court, which they believe to be unrelated to the previous case, according to Diamond.

On Nov. 16, sometime between 6:30 a.m. and 5:20 p.m., Diamond said, two or more people broke into the home and stole jewelry and a large, gray combination safe estimated in value at more thn $68,000. Diamond added that due to the weight of the safe, it is believed that two or more people were needed in the robbery.

"This is a professional job," Diamond said.

There were no signs of forced entry, according to Diamond, and the thieves could have gotten in through an unlocked door in the garage.
