Police: Westland Man, 24, Drowns in Pleasant Lake

Perry Levi Moore was swimming on Sunday night and did not resurface.

reported Monday that Perry Levi Moore, 24, died Sunday night while swimming in Pleasant Lake.

According to a release issued by Lt. Tim Diamond, the victim was attempting to swim to a pontoon boat, where his family members had been, from the shore. The boat was about 100 feet from shore, but the victim started to struggle about 30 feet from shore.

WJBK-TV reports that Moore was a new dad studying microbiology at Wayne State University.

"He loved his family and his new baby, and he's my oldest son. He was a good boy," mom Sylvia Buttram said on myfoxdetroit.com

Family members observed what was happening and attempted to aid the victim, but could not locate him, Diamond continued. Police were called about 7:30 p.m.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office dive team responded to the location and recovered the victim at about 8:45 p.m. The victim was transported to and was subsequently pronounced dead.

The lake is located near Walnut Lake and Halsted roads.
