Police: Olga's Employee Suspected of Embezzling Nearly $2,000

The West Bloomfield Police Department provided the following information. Arrests, where they are mentioned, do not indicate conviction.

Staff at the Olgas Kitchen discovered nearly $2,000 missing from an office safe late last month and suspect an employee is responsible, according to West Bloomfield Police Department reports.

Officers responded to the restaurant on Feb. 22 and talked to a manager who said about $1,800 in overnight deposits and petty cash were missing from the safe that day, Lt. Tim Diamond said.

One employee told police that he saw a assistant manager walk into the restaurant at about 9 a.m., turn off the alarm and go into the office for a few minutes before leaving unexpectedly. That employee did not return, and another assistant manager that became suspicious opened the safe and discovered the money missing, reports said.

The suspect is a 28-year-old Madison Heights man who reportedly was caught taking money from the restaurant in 2010, reports said. He was not prosecuted in that incident and was allowed to stay with the company, which promoted him to supervisor and, ultimately, assistant manager, Diamond said. Detectives with the West Bloomfield Police Department are trying to locate the man and continue to investigate.
