Police: Profane Spraypaint on School Teacher's Car

The following information was provided by the West Bloomfield Township Police Department. Where applicable, it does not indicate a conviction.

Highlights of reports from July 5-12:

Profane spraypaint on car in school parking lot

An unknown suspect spraypainted a profanity on a teacher's car at  on July 7, according to Police Lt. Tim Diamond.

Diamond said the teacher reported to have pulled into the school's front parking lot to teach his summer school class around 7:05 a.m. that day and heard of the incident just minutes later from a colleague.

The reporting person was said by Diamond to have noticed a 15- to 16-year-old boy walking around the parking lot near the teacher's black Jeep Commander at the time, but didn't think twice before walking inside the school. Just five minutes later, a colleague had told him of the orange spraypaint on the driver's side door, along with scratches to the paint caused by a sharp instrument. The damage is reported to have cost $1,500 to repair and police are investigating, Diamond said.

Vehicle recovered in Waterford

A resident on the 6700 block of Locklin was said to have received a call from the Waterford Police Department on July 5 after her 1998 BMW was recovered, according to Diamond.

Diamond said the resident didn't realize her car was missing after it was allegedly stolen from her driveway sometime between July 3-5 while she housed several family guests over the holiday weekend. The car was found with no damage and nothing taken from inside, but did have a different license plate improperly placed on it when it was found by police. The license plate was allegedly taken from another vehicle parked in the driveway, Diamond said. Police are investigating what they say was probably a case of a family member who needed a car for the night, but not did want to ask the owner to borrow her car.

"Because there was no damage and nothing taken, it sounds to me like someone took that car for a joy ride," Diamond said.

Moose statue stolen

A family on the 2800 block of Warner Drive reported that a 300 pound moose statue was stolen from their lawn while they were away on vacation between July 6-10, according to Diamond.

The residents returned home July 10 to find that the brown, metallic moose, which stands 5-feet-by-5-feet and is estimated to cost $100, was missing. Police are investigating, but have no suspects.
