Sheriff: Teens in Serious Condition Following Early Morning Auto Crash

2004 Dodge Neon crossed center line on Orchard Lake Road in Sylvan Lake on Sunday morning; alcohol is possibly a factor in the crash.

Two 16-year-olds were seriously injured early Sunday when a car they were passengers in crashed on Orchard Lake Road in Sylvan Lake, a news release from the Oakland County Sheriff's Office stated.

The teens were in serious condition at McLaren Hospital, according to the release, which was issued Sunday evening. The crash occurred at 3:23 a.m.  when, according to the release, a 2004 Dodge Neon traveling east on Orchard Lake Road at Ward Road crossed the center line and struck a westbound 2003 Pontiac Sunfire. The injured teens were in the Sunfire's backseat, and it is unknown if they were wearing seat belts. The release did not indicate where the teens resided.

The driver of the Neon, a 24-year-old man from Bloomfield Hills, and the driver of the Sunfire, an 18-year-old man from Troy, were both taken to McLaren Hospital and were in stable condition on Sunday. The front-seat passenger of the Sunfire, a 16-year-old from Troy, was treated for minor injuries and released at the scene.

Alcohol is possibly a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation by the OCSO Crash Reconstruction Unit and Sylvan Lake Police.
