Updated: Smoke Detectors Alert West Bloomfield Family to Early Morning Fire

The fire shut down Pontiac Trail early Friday morning between Orchard Lake Road and Old Orchard Trail.

Update, 2 p.m. - Pontiac Trail has been reopened following a large house fire that shut the road down early Friday morning.

West Bloomfield Fire Marshal Pat Riney said the fire started sometime between 4 a.m. and 4:15 a.m. at a home on Orchard Lake.

Riney said the homeowners were home at the time, but everyone escaped without injury.

There was extensive fire damage to the home, though no monetary estimates yet on the amount of damages, according to Riney.

The West Bloomfield Fire Department is still investigating what, exactly, caused the fire.

West Bloomfield Township firefighters are on the scene of a Friday morning house fire in a home on Orchard Lake that has shut down Pontiac Trail between Orchard Lake Road and Old Orchard Trail.  

WWJ radio reports that the family escaped unharmed, thanks to smoke detectors that woke them. Reporter Bill Szumanski described the house as "one of those three-story, very large homes right on the lake." 

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
