Vehicle Stolen in West Bloomfield Found in Farmington Hills and More

The following information was provided by the West Bloomfield Township Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Highlights from reports May 8-15:

Stolen vehicle found in Farmington Hills

Residents of a home on the 32000 block of Hearthstone Road in Farmington Hills awoke May 10 to find a car parked on the front lawn that was traced to a theft in West Bloomfield, according to Lt. Tim Diamond.

Diamond said police suspect sometime overnight May 9 that someone found an unlocked 2001 Toyota Camry parked in a resident's driveway on the 7000 block of Pebblecreek and began searching for the keys to the vehicle. That person may have opened the garage from inside the vehicle and went inside the home to find the car's keys on a kitchen counter, Diamond said.

Residents of the home told police that they had parked the vehicle in the driveway about 11 p.m. that night and were unaware the vehicle was missing until they were contacted regarding the report. Diamond said the residents were unaware of what may have been a case of home invasion.

The case was turned over to the detective bureau for investigation.

Tires, wheels taken in string of incidents

Tires and wheels were stolen from at least two different vehicles overnight May 13 and another incident was reported in which loosened lugnuts caused a wheel to fall off of a car in motion May 14, Diamond said.

The tires and wheels were stolen off of a 2002 Cadillac Escalade parked in a resident's driveway on the 5700 block of Putnam (an estimated loss of $3,000) as well as the tires and wheels off of a 2010 Cadillac CTS parked in a  driveway on the 6000 block of Wynford (an estimated loss of $2,000).

Diamond said the proximity of the thefts, as well as the way in which both vehicles were propped up by 2x4s when they were found, illustrates the possibility that the incidents were done by the same person or people working together.

Another incident was reported in which a wheel on a vehicle traveling on Orchard Lake Road north of Pine Lake Road fell off, according to Diamond. Mechanics later confirmed suspicions that the lugnuts were loosened, but not removed, he said.

"I would advise residents to keep their vehicles locked and to consider wheel locks if their vehicles can use them," Diamond said. "Apart from that, just keep your properties well-lit, especially if you park your vehicle outside."

Vitamins stolen from Whole Foods

Police officers made a traffic stop on a 32-year-old Detroit man after he allegedly stole vitamins from  on May 10, according to Diamond.

A loss prevention officer found the man placing vitamins worth an estimated $15 he had not paid for in a brown bag before leaving in a silver Buick and fleeing southeast on Northwestern Highway. The vitamins were found in the trunk of the car when the man was stopped, Diamond said.

The man was placed under arrest after officers found he was driving with a suspended license, Diamond said, and he posted $100 bond and was released. He is scheduled to be in court May 23.
