West Bloomfield Police Investigate Retail Frauds

The West Bloomfield Police Department provided the following information. Arrests, where they are mentioned, do not indicate conviction.

Officials with the West Bloomfield Police Department investigated the following reports over the past week.

Retail Fraud

  • A 62-year-old West Bloomfield man that appeared to be intoxicated was arrested for trying to steal two bottles of Mike's Hard Lemonade from Hiller's Market at about 4 p.m. on March 24. Officers issued a citation, reports said. The value the items was $10.66.
  • Police arrested a 25-year-old Southfield woman for trying to steal a pair of Levi's Jeans and Vera Wang perfume from Kohl's on March 24, police reports said. Store security officers told police she entered the fitting room after walking around the store for several minutes, and left holding no items. Guards confronted her as she tried to leave and found the perfume, valued at about $60, and the $46 jeans in her purse, reports said. Officers issued a citation.
  • Staff at the Plum Market reported two recent retail frauds to police last week. On March 22 a man was seen on store surveillance cameras taking two bottles of wine. A different man was seen taking two bottles of liquor valued at about $140 on March 10. The incidents do not appear to be related. 

Fraud

  • 5500 block of Castleton Drive: The resident on March 22 claimed an undisclosed amount of money was taken from their bank account while they were under an individual's care, reports said. The case was forwarded to detectives for further investigation.
  • 6000 block of Siverbrooke: The resident reported a fraudulent check for $30 was used from an account. The case was forwarded to detectives for further investigation.
