West Bloomfield Township Police to Add Six Officers

The new officers could be on board by mid-August.

Four men and two women have been offered positions as West Bloomfield Township Police officers.

The department has not hired any officers in about five years, Lieutenant Tim Diamond said. Township officials had authorized three new positions in this year's budget and agreed to replace three officers who left the department.

"These officers are considered 'certifiable', meaning they have been through the (police) academy or are coming from other agencies," Diamond said.

Once they've gotten through a background check and other screenings, officers will undergo a 16-week field training program. They'll be on probation for as long as a year and a half, Diamond said, and should be on board by mid-August or early September.
