14 Mile Road Work in West Bloomfield Begins Sept. 17

The road will close Sept. 23, with traffic detoured on Halsted into Farmington Hills.

The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) expects work to begin Sept. 17 on the reconstruction of 14 Mile Road between Haggerty and County Way in West Bloomfield Township.

According to a Road Commission for Oakland County press release, the road will be closed to through traffic beginning Sept. 23 and is expected to re-open by Nov. 15.

The project involves removal of the existing road and base and placement of new base and asphalt road surface. The closure is needed because the slope of the road will be changed to improve safety, according to the release.

During the closure, Country Way Street access will be from the east. Traffic will be detoured into Farmington Hills, via Halsted Road to 13 Mile Road to Haggerty Road and back to 14 Mile Road and vice versa.

The project also includes drainage improvements, upgrading the pedestrian crosswalk ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements and updating the pedestrian crosswalk signals.

The $740,000 project is being funded through the Tri-Party Program, which involves West Bloomfield Township paying one third of the cost, the Road Commission paying one third and Oakland County general government paying the final third.

The work will be performed by DePonio Contracting Inc. of Shelby Twp.
