The Oakland County Clerk's office completed an audit of Aug. 7 primary votes in West Bloomfield Thursday after some absentee ballots were noted as missing on Tuesday.

Election results were delayed to early Wednesday morning after Township Clerk Cathy Shaughnessy notified local and county police, as well as the county clerk's office, when a "stack" of 44 absentee ballots representing were noted as misplaced by absentee ballot workers.

The ballots were found later that same night, Shaughnessy explained early Wednesday morning. County Elections Director Joe Rozell said that the audit found no evidence of impropriety on the part of the township.

"The law requires us to count them all in one day ... and we got a boatload in today. I'm sure (absentee ballot workers) were overwhelmed," she said. "The theft of our memory cards has been a concern all along, but the integrity of this election remained secure."

Shaughnessy refers to a July incident in which from the clerk's office.  investigation remains ongoing; Police Chief Michael Patton noted no signs of forced entry to the area.

Rozell pointed out that while results remain unofficial until another review is completed later this month, none of the races on precinct ballots were decided by 44 votes or less.

Residents there voted in races including the , the , and the .

Shaughnessy estimated that of 8,600 absentee ballots delivered, 7,600 were returned.

Clerk Shaughnessy sure has a lot of excuses for her failure to secure the memory cards and now her failure to conduct a clean election without delay. Where could the ballots have gone in a secure room? Were her instructions unclear to the election workers? What will she do in November when the voter turnout is far greater. She needs to stop crying wolf when she underachieves. Mitt Romney should question the integrity of elections in West Bloomfield again. However, this time he should insist that someone from the county or state assist/retrain Clerk Shaughnessy.

Clerk Shaughnessy has held excellent trainings and provides detailed packets of the process for election workers to follow. I would be more concerned with a supervisor who also has access to the 'locked' room (that shows no sign of forced entry) and who had recruited a candidate to run against Shaughnessy because Cathy Shaughnessy is turning out to be more fiscally responsible than Economou would like. It will be interesting to find out who the last person was that entered that locked room.

Treasurer Weingarden exposed Clerk Shaughnessy's abuse of taxpayer's dollars. Shaughnessy abused her position as Clerk to bombard the public with unnecessary/useless communication from her office just to keep her name in front of the voters. Those mailings and stickers cost the taxpayer's thousands of dollars. The Clerk's strategy worked. It is a well known fact that Shaughnessy hired her political consultant who helped her get elected in 2008. The two of them may have cooked up the mailing strategy and the questionable missing memory cards.
