Former West Bloomfield Deputy Treasurer Returns

Officials had sparred over former deputy treasurer Jared Maynard's salary and vetting for the position.

Conflict over the hiring of a new West Bloomfield Township Deputy Treasurer appears to be over, as officials last week noted the return of former Deputy Treasurer Dorothy Silver.

Township Treasurer Teri Weingarden hired Jared Maynard in July, at a salary of more than $70,000. Township trustees later reduced Maynard's pay and his authority to conduct bank transactions, after questions arose over whether appropriate paperwork had been filed with Comerica Bank.

Officials were also concerned that Maynard refused to undergo a criminal background check, although Weingarden later said he would comply.

In late August, Weingarden defended her deputy when a list of 17 allegations, including poor communication and intimidating other employees, were presented during a township board meeting. Weingarden and trustee Larry Brown noted that Maynard appeared to have good relationships within his own department.
