Lawsuit Filed Over West Bloomfield Home Tied to O'Rourke Shooting

West Bloomfield Township Police officer Patrick O'Rourke was shot and killed after entering the home on Forest Edge Lane in 2012.

West Bloomfield Township officials have gone to court to force repair or demolition of a damaged home connected with the death of West Bloomfield Police Sergeant Patrick O'Rourke

According to a report in The Oakland Press, the lawsuit filed against the widow of Ricky Coley "to either bring the house in the 4500 block of Forest Edge Lane up to code or take some action to correct the home’s many problems, including the possibility of demolishing it."

Township Supervisor Michele Economu Ureste told the newspaper that neighbors have complained about the condition of Deniece Coley's home, which city officials say is gutted inside and still has damage from bullets outside.

O'Rourke, 39, was among a handful of officers who responded to the home on Sept. 9, 2012, after a report of shots fired. Officers who entered the home were met with gunfire through a closed bedroom door and drywall. Only O'Rourke was injured.
