Learn About New Health Care Markets Sept. 18 in West Bloomfield

Oakland County Commissioner Marcia Gershenson organized the meeting in response to polls showing many do not know what's available to them under the Affordable Health Care Act.

Oakland County Commissioner Marcia Gershenson, who represents West Bloomfield, will host an Affordable Health Care Act informational meeting Sept. 18 in West Bloomfield.

The 7 p.m. event, held at township hall, 4550 Walnut Lake Road, will teach residents how to navigate the new health care system. Gershenson has teamed up with the non-partisan organization, Enroll America, to inform residents about new health care markets.

Gershenson arranged the West Bloomfield meeting, and one previously held in Farmington Hills, in response to recent polls that showed 78 percent of the uninsured do not know about the new health care markets and that 83 percent do not know that they qualify for healthcare.

“After such a great response from the public at the first meeting, I look forward to educating more residents about the process and helping them understand the system, as we get closer to the enrollment period which begins October 1, 2013," Gershenson said. "People need to know how they will be affected."
