Nonprofit Law Center Files to Dismiss Brown's Defamation Lawsuit

The American Freedom Law Center represents Ericah Caughey, who alleges Brown fired her after she became pregnant.

This week, the American Freedom Law Center (AFLC) filed a motion to dismiss a defamation lawsuit filed by former Michigan State Representative Lisa Brown against her former legislative assistant, Ericah Caughey.

Brown, a West Bloomfield resident who is now Oakland County Clerk, filed the suit after Caughey in 2012 publicly accused Brown of firing her without reason, after Caughey became pregnant. Caughey said she came forward to bring attention to House Bill 4799, which would make it illegal to coerce a woman into having an abortion against her will. The bill passed through both the House and Senate, but never became law.

In a press release, AFLC noted it represents Caughey in the defamation lawsuit. The motion for summary disposition argues that Brown’s defamation claims are not actionable as a matter of law and therefore should be dismissed.

AFLC, a 501(c)3 organization, is "a Judeo-Christian law firm thatfights for faith and freedom", according to the release.
