Recall Petition Against Trustee Brown Fails

A township resident did not collect the required signatures in a six-month period.

A recall petition filed against West Bloomfield Township Board Trustee Larry Brown expired Monday with no signatures.

Township resident Betty Hyman filed two petition versions Jan. 26 with the Oakland County Election Commission, which Brown described Tuesday as “nothing more than a personal attack.” The six-month period that Hyman had to file 6,564 signatures, or 25 percent of the number of voters who voted for the governor in the last gubernatorial election, expired.

“I’m glad that we can move on to other things,” Brown said.

According to the Oakland County Clerk/Register of Deeds office, the petition language dealt with three issues: a sewer lining contract that Brown supported in 2009, a that Brown filed in 2010 against the police department and an issue over Brown not paying 2009 taxes on trustee income. and has asked the township to divert it to the township’s water benevolence fund.

Hyman said she had broken her ankle in the time since she had filed and was not able to campaign as she would have liked. Hyman would not comment further.
