Rep. Lisa Brown Leaves Lansing Blasting House Leaders

'Stinging attack' in retribution from West Bloomfield Democrat who made national headlines this summer with controversial speech.

Lisa Brown might be gone from the Michigan House of Representatives floor soon, but she'll likely be remembered long after she leaves — thanks to pointed, negative comments she had for Republican leadership in her farewell address Wednesday.

Brown (D-39th District) was barred from speaking on the floor in June after she claimed an abortion bill forced contradictory religious beliefs upon her and others, referencing her own vagina at the end of her speech. Brown, a Jewish mother of three, chose not to run for a third term and instead pursued a successful bid for Oakland County Clerk in the Nov. 6 election.

"Finally, Mr. Speaker, I'm flattered that you're all so interested in my vagina, but 'no' means 'no,'" Brown said in June.

On Wednesday, Crain's Detroit Business reports that Brown saved a "stinging attack" for Rep. Pete Lund, House Speaker Jase Bolger, Rep. Jim Stamas, and Rep. John Walsh for the ban, in addition to several other issues with the Repubican majority.

"Instead of the political pranks and stunts, why don't you try and put policy in place that will actually benefit, support and protect the people of Michigan?" Brown asked, in response to tactics such as, "gerrymandering me, trying to have me recalled, banning me from speaking, and breaking your promise to have a hearing on my cyberbullying bills."

"And to have a committee chair who has hearings on bills that she has not read, even those she has sponsored, is shameful and disrespectful of other people's time," Brown added.

Crain's reports that the last line is in reference to Rep. Lisa Posthumous Lyons, chairwoman of the Education Committee, where Brown serves as the minority vice chairwoman.

It is too bad that the apathetic public in this state does not realize that their politicians are destroying their schools and property values. They should run these people out of the state. Lisa was just telling it the way it is.

Lisa Brown was the BEST political rep I've had in decades! I love how she'd drop by our houses to honestly and candidly discuss issues. Well, we now know with accuracy, where the "stinking thinking" is in Lansing. I'm glad we'll still have her available to us in Oakland County.

How hypocritical of Lisa Brown, queen of stunts. And have you visited her office lately? Total disrespect for the office of representative.

Do her parting remarks sound like someone who is objective, level headed, ready to continue the efficient running of the clerk's office who will enhance the reputation of our county as a great place to do business, or an emotional diatribe of someone with an axe to grind?
