Should Snyder Sign Bill Allowing Concealed Weapons in Schools?

On Friday, a gunman killed at least 27 at a school in Newtown, CT. Meanwhile in Michigan, Gov. Rick Snyder has a bill on his desk that would allow some concealed guns in schools. What do you think?

Should Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder sign a bill on is desk that would allow concealed weapons in former no-gun zones, like schools?

The question is timely:

  • Under legislation that passed the House and Senate in Michigan this week, gun owners with concealed weapon permits could carry a gun into schools, day cares, hospitals or public arenas if they get extra training. The bill is awaiting Gov. Rick Snyder's signature, according to MLive.
  • And on Friday, a gunman opened fire in a school in Newtown, CT, .

What do you think of the legislation? Should the governor sign it? Leave a comment!

The arguement that it would prevent the horror and evil in CT is false. A gun in a classroom is a liability for a teacher. I teach high school and would be overpowered by students bigger and stronger than me. I am lucky I have a full time police officer in my school. An elementary child could get a hold of it and cause damage and really I do not want a teacher with a gun in my 10 year old's class. We have a sickness in this country. A true sick culture of violence in all areas. Only yesterday in AL a mom and her two children were killed in a domestic dispute with an AK-47 and an officer ended up with critical injuries. A man fired 50 rounds in a mall parking lot etc etc etc. Will this nightmare end? No! Snyder keep guns away from stadiums, schools and churches where it will discharge accidently and kill someone. My friends teach college and 21 year olds are in their classes. They do not want guns in their classes either. Get rid of the semi and automatics which are TRUE WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION.
Why should he even sign it? It only allows concealed weapons in the places we should never have them - schools, daycares, concert venues...
Hi Susan. Somehow, there are still people who think it is okay to walk around with loaded weapons without telling anyone else.... that is what concealed means, right? Makes me sick! I agree with you.

Pam, this guy was on a mission to kill. If he had not gained access to a gun it would of been a knife, box cutter, machete, baseball bat, etc.. The Only way to stop a sick individual with a weapon is a sane person with a weapon of equal or greater power. Someone needs to be armed in our schools, be it teachers with the proper training, administrators, police, security personnel, etc.!

Ladies, there seems to be a lot of misinformation about what kinds of guns are being used and the general public own. For starters almost nobody can go out and buy an "automatic" machine gun type weapon, these are highly regulated. Secondly, the "assault" rifles the general public can buy are "semi-automatic" and are not much different than a standard hunting rifle other than the look of them. They look like military rifles but are not fully automatic like a military rifle. If you outlaw "assault rifles", a semi-automatic hunting rifle is just as deadly and will fire just as quickly. Then you have semi-automatic and pump shotguns used for hunting and skeet shooting, do you outlaw them as well because there are capable of tremendous damage as well. The list goes on and on, you just can't outlaw everything. I do believe we need to better educate people of the "care" of firearms, keeping them locked up etc., as well as better screen whom can buy and have access to them.
