Syed Taj: Obama Speech 'Brings Us Together as Americans'

Democratic Congressional candidate for Michigan's 11th Congressional District lauds president's Democratic National Convention speech.

Syed Taj (D-Canton), a candidate in Michigan's 11th Congressional District race, said in a statement Thursday that President Barack Obama's speech at the Democratic National Convention served as a reminder for what makes the U.S. great.

Taj, who will face Kerry Bentivolio (R-Milford) on Nov. 6, spoke highly of the president's speech, given Thursday night in North Carolina upon Obama accepting his party's nomination to seek a second term in the White House. The Republican Party held its convention to nominate Mitt Romney one week prior.

"President Obama spokes to the essence of America in his speech," Taj said in a statement. "He not only highlighted the clear policy differences between Democrats and Republicans on jobs, Medicare, Social Security, health care, and national security; he reminded us of what makes our nation great and brings us together as Americans."

Taj said Obama's "eloquence was matched by the power of his words and positive results of his actions."

Taj currently is a Canton Township trustee.

"you BOTH need to be shipped to countries ... Think China, Iran, Pakistan, etc ... I just DESPISE you people ... then try to tear it down!" Freedom of speech doesn't specify intelligent speech. What is being torn down? Let's see Tamara probably believes that Iraq caused 9/11. That there were Weapons of Mass Destruction there even though none were found. That Obama is a moslem that was not born in the USA. That medicare is a ponzi scheme. That the US government is in league with the soviets/China and will over-run us in the near future. That some 250,000 Chinese soldiers are currently housed in the limestone caves of Virginia waiting for the order. Would you care to elaborate, Tamara?

And it's Piyush Jindal not Bobby Jindal. Let's not 'whiten' his name so it's more palatable for the Republicans. He's of Indian heritage. You want to vote for him? Know his real name or just call him Toby.

I think it is clear. She believes that anyone not born here or even with foreign-born parents has no right to public office and does not even have the right to stay in the United States. Anyone who has opinions that disagree with her are "un-American" and are "trying to tear [America] down". Pretty much the definition of Xenophobia and intolerance. Unfortunately this type of expression is now what passes for political discourse in the US and is becoming the norm.

But at least he's not a 9/11 denialist like Kerry Bentivolio.

Wow David real intellectual discourse. I don't think brought up any of your points. Tamara probably believes that Obama ran up more debt than any other President and given 4 more years will have more than all combined. Also that more Americans have been killed in Afghanistan during Obama years. Or that gas prices have doubled, or that he passed Obamacare against the will of the people, or that he wasted 1 trillion on shovel ready or not so shovel ready, or that he respects our enemies more than our allies. Or that he wasted money on green economy. In the end he wants to redistribute our wealth to the rest of the world. The US is the 1%. So you see David the truth is alot scarier than your dumb comments
