West Bloomfield Schools Voters Face Millage Renewal in February

The two operating millages generate $11.5 million every year.

West Bloomfield school officials voted Monday to set a Feb. 25 millage election, asking voters to renew two operating levies that account for 19 percent of the district's budget.

The 18 mill levy on business properties and 5.1603 mill levy on residential properties both expire on Dec. 31, 2014. The district currently levies less than both authorized millages.

Officials said voters will be asked to approve the same amounts already authorized. Without the renewal, the district would lose $11.5 million annually, funds that are used for everything from classroom instruction to custodial services.
