A custodial employee was driven to work at around 6:15 am by her boyfriend, where a domestic dispute occurred. As a result there was a minor assault on the employee. The employee left Sheiko with another employee in a car, and the alleged assailant left the school on foot. The police were called by the employee, and she is at the police department.

The Police did a precautionary search of the school to insure that the alleged assailant was not in the building, and put the building on lockdown.

At approximately 7 am the principal was notified. The principal immediately began implementation of emergency procedures. Police thought they might be able to thoroughly inspect the buildings before school started, but it did not happen in time.

Emergency procedures were implemented and the buses were diverted to West Bloomfield High School. Some staff remained to inform parents that were dropping students off as they were queuing up, to drop them at the high school.  They were told they would be transported back to the high school once we received the all clear from the police.

A Powerschool message was sent out to all parents at that point apprising them of the situation. No students were in danger at any point. The police conducted the search of the school and the surrounding area. Once they were satisfied that the assailant was nowhere in the area they gave the all clear to the school district.

There will be police presence at the school throughout the day today. Students are currently at the school, and all had arrived all in the building by 10:35 am.

We would like to compliment the Principal, staff and teachers for their smooth implementation of the emergency plan insuring that all students were safe at all times. We would also like to thank the West Bloomfield Police Department for their swift action and keeping us in the loop in terms of communication throughout the entire incident.

UPDATE: 11:15 am

The police have the suspect from the Sheiko incident in custody. We will maintain precautionary measures throughout the day today. The building is no longer on lockdown but police will have a presence in the building.
