Election 2012: Wing Lake Students Also Chose Obama

It was reportedly close, but the incumbent won Monday's mock election.

On Monday, we told you about how dozens of students of voting age that attend the Wing Lake Developmental Center in Bloomfield Township cast their ballots for president in the school's mock election.

Turns out the students predicted the winner correctly.

President Barack Obama won a close vote that somewhat reflected what occurred  nationwide Tuesday on Election Day, SCI teacher Jessica Krull said.

"The students enjoyed coloring in the squares of the classrooms to indicate who won each of the 8 rooms and comparing what our school map looked like compared to that of the United States," she said.

The classes also made sure to watch all the speeches from late Tuesday and early Wednesday morning.

Wing Lake is among the few programs in Oakland County that serve students with severe cognitive impairments and severe multiple impairments. The program provides full-day learning experiences for students ranging from age 3 through 26.
