When Joe Cornell Entertainment launched its Event Planning Expo 10 years ago, the biggest blackout the country had ever experienced hit that weekend. Brother-sister team Steve Jasgur and Rebecca Schlussel found a way to pull off a great, albeit small, event, and every year since, they’ve built a bigger, better opportunity for Detroiters to meet event industry vendors and find the guidance they need to plan great celebrations.

This year, with its tenth Event Planning Expo and Wedding Marketplace slated for Sept. 23 at the, Joe Cornell is going all out – offering 10 great prizes, including a FREE DJ package valued at $2,000.

"We love bringing all these talented industry folks together in one place, to make it easy for local families to get all the information and event-planning guidance they need in one day," said Jasgur, Joe Cornell president. "The event grows every year, and participants tell us again and again how useful and inspiring it is."

This year, more than 60 vendors will have booths throughout the first floor of the JCC, including the Charach gallery. What’s more, Joe Cornell’s event-planning magazine, Plan It!, will now be a twice-yearly publication free to metro Detroiters and available online, with the best party-planning advice around. The next issue will be released at the Expo.
