Maplegrove Center is presenting a free public panel discussion to address the questions and concerns parents and other family members have about young people who may be using drugs or alcohol. Maplegrove Center is hosting “Making the Transition to Adulthood: Alcohol, Drugs and the Young Adults We Love,” 7-9 p.m., Nov., 10 in the Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital Ravitz Atrium, 6777 West Maple Rd., in West Bloomfield. Betty Conger, LMSW, CAADC, Maplegrove Children and Family Program coordinator, will make the keynote presentation on how to better understand and guide young adults who may be struggling with making healthy, mature decisions. Other panelists include Judge Linda Davis with the Macomb County District Court and Families Against Narcotics; Dawn Kepler, Prevention Network College Program coordinator; Tom Ghena, LMSW, administrative director of Maplegrove Center; as well as a family who is in recovery. There will also be a question-and-answer period with a group of professionals, parents, recovering young people, EMS workers and others who can provide resources and relevant information to the audience regarding intervention, treatment and support as it relates to young adults and their families.
