New Principal Fiebke-Lang Ready to Lead Maple

Fiebke-Lang, 47, has over 22 years of experience in the Walled Lake School District teaching first, second, third and fifth grades.

Although is scheduled to close at the end of the school year, Michelle Fiebke-Lang sees this as an opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of the school and recognize “who Maple is.”

Fiebke-Lang participated in the Walled Lake Schools Aspiring Principals Leadership Academy and said that she learned, “shared decision-making and collaboration through task teams and, even though we are only going to be together for one year, I’m going to empower others.”

“We have a lot to do but we will find our strengths and reorganize what a committee will look like to help empower others,” she added.

Fiebke-Lang, 47, has over 22 years of experience in the Walled Lake School District teaching first, second, third and fifth grades and holds a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education as well as a Plus-3 Education Leadership Specialty Degree from Oakland University.

During her time as assistant principal at both and Hickory Woods Elementary School she was able to take on leadership roles with student council, create a technology crew and make Hickory Woods Elementary qualify as a Michigan Green School.  Fiebke-Lang added that she also “did a lot a lot with discipline and problem solving skills and was hands-on with staff and students.”

Fiebke-Lang said that her goals are to ensure that students grow socially, academically and individually but her greatest challenge will be keeping a positive light on the closing of the school.  The Maple P.T.A. created a program that Fiebke-Lang will implement, titled “Maple on the Move,” which she explained as a way to guide students into their new schools in the following years.

As a new principal, Fiebke-Lang is intent on “meeting everyone’s needs and being successful with the students and making sure their needs are met.”

Fiebke-Lang plans on communicating often with parents in the community. One of the events she is looking forward to most this year, she said, is the Fun Run, which is Maple Elementary’s only fundraiser. Fiebke-Lang said that proceeds will be put right back into an end-of-the-year carnival and community barbecue.
