The Walled Lake Consolidated School District announced its teachers of the year for the 2012-13 school year:

  • Karrie Martin (Mary Helen Guest Elementary School)
  • Cindy Naszradi (Walnut Creek Middle School)
  • Jack Wellman (Western High School)

In her nomination essay, Naszradi said: “I try to remember all of the things I have learned from the people in my life and I feel all of these things help my students learn.  I am truly blessed to be in a career that I love.  I teach because my students want to learn.”

Martin wrote: “Every day is not perfect.  I have made mistakes, I still make mistakes.   I ask myself every day, “What could I have done to serve my students better?”

Wellman wrote: “There are so many reasons I love to teach but mostly I just want to have the chance to motivate, inspire and create successful students who will go out into the world with confidence and the ability to succeed.  My students have helped me as much as I tried to help them with the trials and tribulations of high school life. I see my younger self in many of the faces I see every day, and I can only smile and count my blessings that I became a teacher.”
